Michael Taverna’s film “Apartment 1303 3D” is making indie film news by becoming the first indie to play in 3D in theaters and on demand simultaneously. The thriller has been acquired by Gravitas Ventures which will first release the film via video on demand June 17 and subsequently release the film in theaters July 25.
“‘Apartment 1303 3D’ is being released theatrically around the world and is holding its ground at the box office against higher budget 3D titles like ‘OZ’ or ‘Giant Slayer.’ This speaks to the quality of the film and of the full stereoscopic 3D as well as the demand for 3D content worldwide,” said Cindy Nelson-Mullen , CEO of MonteCristo International.
The film is based on a novel by Kei Ôish and is a remake of a Japanese horror film of the same name. The thriller centers on the deadly fate that befalls tenants of apartment 1303 in an apartment complex in downtown Detroit. Janet Slate (Julianne Michelle) is one of the casualties, having fallen 13 stories in the middle of the night. In an attempt to uncover the truth about her death, Janet’s sister Lara (Mischa Barton) moves into the same apartment. She begins to experience strange events and meets the equally strange neighbors which include a young girl who knows more Janet’s death.
