Ready yourself for another dose of Aaron Sorkin’s unhesitating take on TV journalism — HBO’s announced a return date for his cable news drama “The Newsroom.”
The second season of the series will kick off Sunday, July 14th at 10pm, and will find the staff of “News Night” chasing a mysterious tip that leads to a story that ultimately spins out of control. Jeff Daniels will be back as anchor Will McAvoy, with Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston, John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn and Dev Patel co-starring.
The show was a divisive one in its first year, one that earned criticism for its didacticism and the portrayal of its female characters while always being a hot topic of discussion. “The Newsroom” is the first cable series from Sorkin, whose previous small screen work, including “Sports Night,” “The West Wing” and “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,”which all aired on broadcast networks.
