Predictably, HBO has placed an order for a fourth season of “Game of Thrones,” the day after the record 4.4. million viewers for the Season Three premiere were announced, just as the channel did after the Season Two premiere. Three
Sunday “Thrones” showings added up to record 6.7 million.
(Here’s TOH’s review.) The Season Three premiere was up 13% from last year’s premiere (3.9 million) which had less to compete against and beat its previous record high, Season Two’s finale’s of 4.2 million.
“Thrones” was up against intense competition from finales of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and History’s “The Bible” — which totaled something close to 25 million viewers.
The new premiere basically doubled the series start in Season One. Executive producers of “Thrones” are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette
Caulfield. Co-executive producers are Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, the novelist George R.R. Martin, and Vanessa Taylor; it’s produced by Chris Newman, and Greg Spence.The always-nominated series took home six Emmy awards for Season Two.
