Indiewire is pleased to announce the promotion of features editor Nigel M. Smith to managing editor.
As Indiewire’s managing editor, Smith will be responsible for overseeing the editing and social media for all Indiewire posts and for coordinating coverage with the bloggers on the Indiewire Network. He’ll also serve as the primary liaison with SnagFilms.com, the website of Indiewire’s parent company.
“Nigel’s become an invaluable part of the Indiewire team,” said Indiewire editor in chief and general manager Dana Harris. “He’ll continue writing for the site, especially the interviews he does so well, but he has also proven himself to be an ace at the kind of organization and foresight that the managing editor role demands.”
Smith will continue to report to Harris, as will senior writer and awards columnist Peter Knegt, senior editor and chief film critic Eric Kohn, TV editor Alison Willmore and Filmmaker Toolkit editor Bryce J. Renninger.
In addition to being a daily contributor to the site and covering film festivals ranging from Sundance to Abu Dhabi, Smith has also conducted hundreds of interviews since he joined Indiewire in 2010. He also serves as curator for Indiewire’s monthly VOD list.
Smith joined Indiewire in 2010, shortly after completing his MA in Arts Journalism from Syracuse University’s SI Newhouse School of Public Communications.
