Kobe Bryant’s Twitter Career Is Off to a Rough Start

Kobe Bryant's Twitter Career Is Off to a Rough Start

Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers clearly has few peers on the basketball court. He is one of the most successful and accomplished players in the history of the sport, boasting five championship rings and a reputation as a great clutch performer.

He is a driven team man, too. He demands excellence from himself and his teammates all the time. Just Ask Andrew Bynum and Dwight Howard about Kobe’s ferocious work ethic. Exactly how driven Bryant is was on display for the world to see.

Welcome to social media, Kobe. As a tweeter, Kobe proved to be an all star on Sunday afternoon during game one of the Lakers’ first round playoff series with the heavily favored San Antonio Spurs.

Watching the game at home, where he is rehabbing his surgically repaired left leg. It must have made Bryant, the ultimate competitor, furious to see his Lakers lose, 91-79. He responded by sending out frequent tweets during the actual game, which became major sports news afterward. That’s an all-star tweeter, folks: He makes news.

With his 140-character messages, Bryant tried to offer encouragement, from Newport Beach, Calif., for his hard-pressed teammates. But his dismayed observations about the team’s “matador” defense and cries of “post, post, post,” could also be interpreted as his criticisms of L.A.’s offensive and defensive strategy.

To no one’s surprise: it looks like Kobe will stop sending messages via Twitter during the games.

No doubt, the Lakers’ coaches, already under fire from the team’s rabid fan base for a sub-par regular season, hope Kobe will resist the urge to continue his tweeting career. LOL.

Me? I enjoyed reading his tweets, and I don’t see anything wrong with the ultra-competitive Bryant letting off some steam.

As a fan, too, I learned a lot about the thought process of one of the all-time greats during an actual game.

So long, Kobe. Hope i c u soon and that u will brb — on the basketball court, where you belong.
