Liam Neeson & ‘Safe House’ Director Daniel Espinosa Will Tell A ‘Gang Story’

Liam Neeson & 'Safe House' Director Daniel Espinosa Will Tell A 'Gang Story'

Guys, you’re never going to believe this, but Liam Neeson has just become attached to a movie where he’ll play an older gentleman with a unique set of skills which he has to use to protect his family. No joke, and we’re not talking about “Taken 3: Totally Tooken.”

Instead, it’s “Gang Story” (which will hopefully be changed to a less generic name), a remake of the 2011 French film “Les Lyonnais.” The original film centers around  Edmond “Momon” Vidal, an aging gangster putting his bank robbing life of crime of the 1970’s behind him, settling down and moving on. But that’s until his old pal and unrepentant cohort Serge gets into some trouble and Momon has to risk it all to save him or something because bullets and beatings all sorts of mayhem. So basically, a Liam Neeson movie. “Safe House” helmer Daniel Espinosa is attached to direct, with David Scarpa (“The Last Castle,” “The Day The Earth Stood Still” remake) writing the script.

So yeah, another generic Neeson flick it seems, though perhaps Espinosa will pump full of a bit more flair. We’ll see how this develops. For now, Espinosa’s next project is “Child 44” shooting this summer with Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman while Neeson is in between a handful of projects that involve some form of kicking, punching and growling. Watch the trailer for “Les Lyonnais” — with English subs — below. [Deadline]
