Producers Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson first rose to prominence in 2006 when they co-founded The Halcyon Company and Halcyon Games in 2006, the company that three years later would produce “Terminator Salvation,” in addition to 2007’s mockumentary “Cook Off.” For the follow up to the release of those films, the partners decided they would try their hand at directing for the first time, resulting in their Madoff crime set documentary “In God We Trust”
What it’s about: “Eleanor Squillari went to work every day believing she was working for a great company, a great man. For twenty-five years she sat fifteen feet away from Bernard L. Madoff as his personal secretary. She never imagined he was perpetrating the largest financial crime in history. On December 11, 2008, her life as she knew it was destroyed…until she decided to do something about it. “In God We Trust” is not only an in depth look at the Madoff crime, but also a intimate portrait of a truly remarkable woman who defies the odds to do what she believes is right in the face of extraordinary adversity.”
What else should audiences know: “For over three years, we have chronicled Eleanor Squillari’s journey since shortly after Bernie’s arrest. With a lean crew and unparalleled access to Eleanor and experts, we shot the film in and around New York City in real time as she unearthed the truth behind a fabled man and a complex scam that is far more than meets the eye.”
What was the biggest challenge in developing the project: “Our biggest challenge in making the film was uncovering and communicating the vast amount of complex information and events that where part of Bernie’s crime while capturing the extraordinary humanity of Eleanor’s journey.”
What they hope audiences will walk away with: “We would like people realize that in spite of crimes like Bernie’s that very little has been done to protect normal investors. And that it is not likely to change unless we take action.
“We hope that Eleanor inspires people to take responsibility and to fight for what they believe in.”
What’s next: “We have several upcoming projects including another doc as well as a period feature film.”
