Michael Rooker Is Yondu In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

Perhaps rivaling “Godzilla” for having the most random cast for an upcoming tentpole movie, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” continues to assemble an unlikely group of players, now rounding up an actor who has found some career revitalization thanks to “The Walking Dead.”

Michael Rooker — aka Merle Dixon — has reunited with his “Slither” director James Gunn for the upcoming superhero movie, joining Zoe SaldanaChris Pratt and Dave Bautista. Like we said, pretty random cast. Rooker will taking the role of Yondu, a character we’re not familiar with. But Wikipedia lets us know that he is a hunter belonging to the Zatoan tribe, whose lone power seems to be some kind of sixth sense, and he rolls with a bow and arrows containing tips of metal only found on Centauri IV that allow them to adapt to sound. Take that Hawkeye!

A raccoon, a talking tree and outer space will somehow combine when this arrives on August 1, 2014. [Deadline]
