New Poster & Pics For ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’; Robert Orci Talks J.J. Abrams’ Split ‘Star Trek/Star Wars’ Duties

New Poster & Pics For 'Star Trek Into Darkness'; Robert Orci Talks J.J. Abrams' Split 'Star Trek/Star Wars' Duties

Man, London is not having a good year at the movies. Last month, it got wiped out in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and next month, it’s gonna get trashed again in “Star Trek Into Darkness.” People must have gotten over their Olympic fever fast….

Anyway, a new poster has plopped online for the sequel with Benedict Cumberbatch‘s terrorist/villain lording over a ruined cityscape. There are some new images from the movie as well, with Kirk, Spock, Sulu and everyone else racing into action for a plot that we really don’t know anything about, as per J.J. Abrams‘ usual vow of secrecy. Speaking of which, the director will likely put a veil of non-disclosure around “Star Wars: Episode 7“as well, but the big question remains how on Earth will Abrams keep two major franchises, fans and studios happy all at once? Well, ‘Darkness’ producer and writer Robert Orci reflected on just that.

“First I was happy for J.J., but I definitely felt a disturbance in the Force – which, incidentally, was first felt by Spock on the original series of Star Trek: when 400 Vulcans died he felt it across space, just like Ben Kenobi, but a decade ahead…,” he told Empire (via Comic Book News). “Anyway, we’re all fans of ‘Star Wars.’ Still, this is going to affect calendars and now it’s two massive corporations having to vie for the right attention to each of these properties. But hopefully it will be fine.”

“I don’t know how much Paramount and other studios have to cooperate with each other,” he continued. “But I think everyone will explore every possibility fairly. And even if he goes completely ‘Star Wars,’ we know now – he can’t ever deny it – he is a big ‘Star Trek’ fan!”

So, a careful mix of optimism and acceptance then? Will this be Abrams last go around the Enterprise? “Star Trek Into Darkness” arrives on May 17th. [HeyUGuys/ComingSoon]
