Picturehouse, the newly resurrected distribution company run by founder Bob Berney, has announced a partnership with IMAX for its first acquisition. The two companies will work together on Picturehouse’s first release, director Nimród Antal’s “Metallica Through the Never,” which will receive an exclusive release on IMAX 3D format for a one-week engagement starting September 27. The film will then expand into additional theaters on October 4.
As previously announced, “Metallica Through the Never” is a narrative feature co-starring the band members as well as Den DeHaan (“Chronicle”) as a crew member endures a difficult assignment over the coarse of a stadium show.
“The totally immersive experience of IMAX 3D is the perfect complement to Metallica’s in-your-face, big and loud performance style,” Berney said in a statement. “The combination of the band’s music and a strong storyline create a unique cinematic experience for die-hard fans and general moviegoers alike.”
In addition to “Metallica Through the Never,” Picturehouse has also acquired U.S. rights to release “The Great Gilly Hopkins,” currently in pre-production.
