Tribeca Film Institute has announced recipients of the 10th Annual Access Awards, which offers year-round support for burgeoning filmmakers and their incomplete projects.
In the narrative category, the political drama “The Lobbyists,” directed by Terence Nance (“An Oversimplification of Her Beauty”), took an All Access Creative Promise Awards. Nance’s experimental “Oversimplification” played at Sundance last year, and won a Gotham Award. Chosen from 11 projects, this film will receive $10,000 in funding.
Two documentary projects also nabbed Creative Promise Awards: Lyric R Cabral and David F Sutcliffe’s “(T)error” — about an FBI counterterrorism operation gone awry — and Erik Parker’s “Time Is Illmatic,” a documentary about the rapper Nas.
A number of grants were also doled out by TFI, including the Adrienne Shelley Foundation Filmmaker Grant — named after the late “Waitress” director and frequent Hal Hartley muse — which supports women in film. Afia Nathaniel’s “Dukhtar” received this prize.
