Watch: Andrea Riseborough As A Terrorist Turned Informant In Intense Trailer for 'Shadow Dancer'

James Marsh’s “Shadow Dancer,” his return to narrative filmmaking after the critically praised documentaries “Man on Wire,” and “Project Nim,” is finally preparing for its theatrical release over a year after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. Just two days after releasing the film’s theatrical poster, distributor Magnolia Pictures has released a somber trailer in anticipation of its upcoming release.

Andrea Riseborough stars as a single mother and member of the IRA, an Irish paramilitary organization which fought for the removal of Northern Ireland from the United Kingdom for decades. Following her arrest as part of the plotting of a London bombing, an MI5 officer (Clive Owen) enlists her as an informer, stating that if she doesn’t comply in spying on her own family, she will be spent to prison and forced away from her children

The trailer mostly features the interactions between Riseborough and Owen and highlights many of the qualities that brought fairly positive reception to the film following its screenings at Sundance and Berlin, casting a dark, suspenseful tone over the story of a mother’s attempt to do anything in order to see her children again.

Magnolia Pictures will release “Shadow Dancer” in the U.S.  On Demand April 25 and in a limited theatrical push on May 31. Watch the trailer below.
