While yesterday’s announcement of the 2013 Cannes lineup has inspired fevered anticipation of this year’s upcoming films, many of last year’s most celebrated films have yet to see any theatrical release stateside, and Thomas Vinterberg’s critically acclaimed drama “The Hunt,” is one of the most notable films on that list. After its world premiere at last year’s festival and Best Actor win for star Mads Mikkelsen, the film has opened in almost every major European market and held screenings at various festivals, and now the film will finally receive its U.S. release this summer. Distributor Trust Nordisk has put out a new trailer leading up to the theatrical run.
“The Hunt,” stars Mikkelsen as Lucas, who following a rough divorce, finally begins to put his life back together with a new job at a local kindergarten and girlfriend. After a false accusation from one of his students quickly spirals out of control, he finds himself the subject of mass accusations of molestation in his small community, leaving him to fight for his dignity and the truth against mass hysteria.
Writing on the film after its Toronto screening last year, IW’s Eric Kohn wrote “‘The Hunt’ develops into a devastating portrait of society’s tenuous structure under the pressures of fear.” Read his capsule review of the film here.
The film is set for a theatrical release on July 12, with Trust Nordisk planning a limited expansion following release. Watch the trailer below:
