“I did not know how it was going to end, not in those early days,” Vince Gilligan confessed to moderator Conan O’Brien about the approaching final episodes of “Breaking Bad.” Gilligan and stars Bryan Cranston, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks gathered for a panel, which can be watched in full below, in front of an Academy of Arts and Sciences crowd. The hour-long conversation is a good, meaty one, in part because O’Brien’s clearly a fan. While avoiding spoilers for the finale, which wrapped a week before, Gilligan talks about their process in approaching the end game for the series, and about how he doesn’t feel in any way that it needed to go on longer. The group also breaks down Hank’s (Norris) “Sherlock Holmes moment” on the toilet at the end of the last episode, confirming any lingering doubts that the Walt Whitman book was a gift from Gale Boetticher.
