LA’s Dances With Films Festival, currently preparing for its 16th year running from May 30-June 9, has today announced a new Grand Jury Prize for the festival’s lineup, awarding this year’s winner with a full distribution deal via distributor Gravitas Ventures (“Hunky Dory,” “Sound City”).
Citing a possible reach of over 100 million homes, Gravitas Ventures will release the winning film with a Video On Demand distribution deal formed through a collaboration with the filmmakers. In addition to the news of the Grand Jury Prize, the festival has also announced its extension to 11 days and the expansion of its yearly PowerHouse Panels series, which includes conversations with studio heads, distributors, agents and casting directors.
Since its first festival in 1998, Dances With Films has dedicated itself to the finding of new film talents, citing merit and discoverability as the basis for its yearly lineup, and referring to itself as “the indie heartbeat of Hollywood.” For last year’s festival, the festivities were moved to Hollywood’s famous Chinese Theaters, which will once again house the festival this year.
