Women in the World Summit Features Inspiring Speeches from Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep, Tina Brown, Angelina Jolie and More (VIDEO)

The fourth annual Women in the World summit featured its signature mix of powerful, distinguished and eminent female leaders and icons as well as little-known women who are making great efforts to advocate on the part of women around the world (clips below).

The always eloquent and knowledgeable Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of Newsweek/The Daily Beast, introduced the 2013 summit, held in New York City by emphasizing the breadth of the conference’s goals: “Pushing up the glass ceiling is practically a luxury when there are so many women who feel the floor dropping beneath their feet,” she said, “Try being a woman in Pakistan… try being a woman in the Democratic Republic of Congo…”

Meryl Streep revealed her impeccable storytelling skills (and Irish accent) while describing the achievements of her friend Inez McCormack’s fight for equal pay in Ireland.

Hillary Clinton’s rousing speech opened the second day of the conference. She discussed the problem of people who consider “the challenges of women and girls, somehow separate from the society at large.” Concluding that giving “women and girls a fighting chance isn’t a nice thing to do. This is a core imperative for every human being and every society.” More speeches and thoughts from Women in the World in the videos below:
