A week ahead of opening night of the 66th Cannes Film Festival, festival president Gilles Jacob has announced he will step down from his post in 2015 — that’s 38 years after joining the festival in 1977.
“J’ai promis plusieurs fois à ma femme d’arrêter,” Jacob told the Nice-Matin. “Cette fois je vais le faire.” That translates roughly into: “I promised my wife several times I’d stop. This time, I’ll do it.”
The 83 year-old is credited with creating the Camera d’Or prize as well as the Un Certain Regard and Cinefondation sidebars. His third-to-last Cannes Film Festival runs May 15-26.
