INTERVIEW: Tom Sito on The History of Computer Animation

INTERVIEW: Tom Sito on The History of Computer Animation

I recently visited The University of Southern California to talk with Tom Sito about his new book Moving Innovation. The book is a great historical record of the history of modern computer animation. While most books covering the topic are written from a technical point of view, Tom’s book looks at the people and situations that allowed such a great art form to make the leap from government funded experiments to the game, shows, and feature films that so many people enjoy today.
In the interview, Tom talks about his inspiration for writing the book, some interesting things he uncovered while researching computer animation, and some thoughts on other aspects of the industry today.
Thank you to Tom Sito for taking the time for the interview, Fumi Kitahara for setting it up, and Jessica Rojeck for running the camera.
