Neil Patrick Harris Adds Emmys To Hosting Tonys, Why Not Oscars? UPDATE

Why fix something that isn’t broken? Musically gifted TV star Neil Patrick Harris is not only returning for a fourth turn as host of the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, to air June 9 on CBS, but will also host the Emmys for the network on September 22. Harris hosted the Tonys in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and the 2009 Emmys, which is the last time they were broadcast on CBS. it doesn’t hurt that the final-season premiere of Harris’s show “How I Met Your Mother” is the night after the awards show.

Ken Ehrlich will exec produce The Emmys for CBS.

EARLIER: Rest assured,” promised Harris of his Tony stint. “The show will rock!”

Longtime executive producers of the Tonys, Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, will return as well. The Tonys welcome Harris as one of their own, because while the “Doogie Howser” and “How I Met Your Mother” veteran is a well-known TV star, he has appeared on Broadway in “Assassins,” “Proof” and “Cabaret” as well as the 2011 New York Philharmonic presentation of “Company,” and has directed such L.A. stage productions as “Rent” and “Nothing to Hide.”

Fellow musical veteran Hugh Jackman has hosted the Tonys three times, as well as the Oscars, a goal that still eludes the TV star.
