Trailer Watch: Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' Sends Clooney and Bullock Hurtling through Space

The trailer for director Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity” — starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock — has finally landed. This is Cuaron’s first film since the 2006 dystopian sci-fi thriller “Children of Men,” starring Clive Owen, Michael Caine and Julianne Moore, which at $76 million was too expensive to be profitable.

“Gravity” began shooting in summer 2011 and though it was once thought that the film would have a 2012 release date, Warner Bros. withheld the film to complete VFX. Now, “Gravity” will hit theaters on October 4.

In the film, Clooney and Bullock play scientists who, after their outer space mission goes awry, find themselves tethered to nothing but each other in the darkness of space. The film was shot by “Tree of Life” cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and that name alone goes to show that this will be a very different kind of science fiction film, one no doubt with Kubrickian ambitions.
