Watch The Trailer For Sundance Award Winning, Cannes Bound 'Fruitvale Station'

A few days ahead of its international debut in Cannes, The Weinstein Company has finally unveiled the trailer for Ryan Coogler’s “Fruitvale Station,” which took home both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in Sundance’s U.S. narrative section this winter (when it was known simply as “Fruitvale”).

The film — which is based on the true story of a young man who was shot to death by a police officer at the Oakland, California Fruitvale rapid transit station — stars Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer and Melonie Diaz and received rave reviews at Sundance on top of its prizes.

After hitting Cannes it will make its way to U.S. theaters on July 16th, where The Weinstein Company surely hopes it will continue to follow in the footsteps of “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” That film also won big at Sundance, then followed it up with Cannes and a successful summer release. Six or so months later, it was a best picture nominee.
