A24 has acquired David Michôd’s follow up to “Animal Kingdom,” “The Rover,” for theatrical release in the U.S. The film is a dystopian, futuristic western that takes place in the Australian outback. Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson are set to star.
Set 10 years after the collapse of the western economic system “The Rover” takes place in lawless Australia, where its mineral resources have become a commodity and thieves, desperados, and loners run wild. Sounds fitting — albeit more gritty — to be joining A24’s roster of other youthful, exciting films, including “The Bling Ring,” “Spring Breakers,” and “The Spectacular Now.”
“David Michôd is a visionary filmmaker and we are thrilled to work with him to bring ‘The Rover’ to U.S. audiences,” said A24 in a statement. “The movie will undoubtedly confirm his singular voice and distinctive gift for creating arresting visuals and indelible characters.”
“The Rover” is currently in post-production in Sydney with no word on a release date.
