The Austin-based theater chain Alamo Drafthouse and news site Badass Digest have come together to create a monthly publication, available online as well as at participating Alamo cinemas. The monthly periodical, entitled “BIRTH. MOVIES. DEATH.,” will be curated to appeal to Alamo theatergoers as well as general lovers of movies and pop culture.
“With the Alamo, we set out to build a theater that movie fans would love,” said Drafthouse Founder and CEO Tim League. “With BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH. the concept was similar. We were happy to support a magazine that serious movie fans wouldn’t be able to put down.”
The first issue of BIRTH.MOVIES.DEATH., titled “Beasts Vs. Bots,” is filled with content related to the upcoming release of Guillermo del Toro’s new film “Pacific Rim,” including an interview with Del Toro himself as well as articles about the mythology of Godzilla and recent entires in the Kaiju genre. The content of the magazine will be overseen by Devin Faraci and Meredith Borders of Badass Digest, and already includes contributors such as the Village Voice’s Amy Nicholson and FILM.com’s Jordan Hoffman.
You can check out the cover of the inaugural issue below, which was just made available yesterday.
