Amazon Studios announced its first slate of original series last month — two comedies and three children’s show greenlit on the basis of viewer response to and data collected from a larger slate of 14 pilots that were all offered up online. And now, according to Deadline, the online retailer and aspiring major streaming platform has made a foray into dramas, ordering its first drama pilot.
“Bosch” is a police procedural based on crime fiction writer Michael Connelly’s novels about L.A.P.D. homicide detective Harry Bosch. The pilot is reportedly written by Connelly and Eric Overmyer, who co-created “Treme” with David Simon. The pair are executive producing with Henrik Bastin and Mikkel Bondesen of Fabrik.
A former journalist, like Simon, Connelly has written 17 Harry Bosch novels, the most recent of which is last year’s “The Black Box.” Connelly’s not new to TV, having created UPN sci-fi series “Level 9” and occasionally making guest appearances as himself on “Castle.” His novels “Blood Work” and “The Lincoln Lawyer” have been adapted into films.
In addition to “Treme,” Overmyer has written for “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “The Wire” and “Law & Order.”
