Anne Hathaway is on board to star in and produce “The Lifeboat,” adapted from the book by Charlotte Rogan. Working Title, which produced Tom Hooper’s “Les Miserables” for which Hathaway won an Oscar, and Focus Features have acquired the rights to the novel.
Hathaway will play Grace Winter, a woman on trial for murder in 1914, who recounts her dramatic survival of the sinking of the transatlantic Empress ship. She was one of the few to land in a lifeboat, but once aboard, a dilemma arises: There are too many survivors in the lifeboat, and some must be gotten rid of.
William Broyles Jr. (‘Castaway,” “Apollo 13”) is penning the script; no one is lined up yet to direct.
Hathaway currently has Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic “Interstellar” in the 2014 pipeline; she previously starred in Nolan’s “Dark Knight Rises” as Selina Kyle, aka Cat Woman.
