James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Giamatti are all on board as voice actors for an animated feature version of Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s 1943 classic novella “The Little Prince.” Mark Osborne (“Kung Fu Panda”) is set to helm.
No word yet on who will be adapting the script. The book centers on a pilot who crash-lands in the Sahara Desert, and encounters a young boy who has fallen to Earth via an asteroid. As the pilot works on his plane, the boy recounts stories from his otherworldy home where he is prince, including descriptions of gigantic baobab trees taking over the planet, and one of the most lovely, melancholy anecdotes of friendship with a fox who wishes to be tamed (“But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world”).
Per the Hollywood Reporter, Bridges will voice the pilot, but no other specifics on casting. THR also speculates that Paramount, which produced Stanley Donen’s 1974 live-action version of the film, will have a role in the new project’s distribution.
