“The Devil Wears Prada” screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna has signed on to adapt the yet to be released “Jane Eyre” graphic novel “Rochester,” for which Fox 2000 just snapped up the rights.
“Rochester” is a modern retelling of Charlotte Bronte’s classic, centering on an orphan who becomes a young governess at the estate of brooding, mysterious Edward Rochester. The novel has been adapted for the big screen many times, most recently in 2011 for Carey Fukunaga’s version starring Mia Wasikowska as the eponymous lead and Michael Fassbender as Rochester.
The book will be published by Archaia Publishing, an indie company known for many Eisner-nominated graphic novels. (Though soon to be indie no more: BOOM! studio has acquired it.)
This is McKenna’s first reteaming with Fox 2000 since she had her breakthrough adapting Lauren Weisberger’s bestseller “The Devil Wears Prada” for the studio in 2006.
McKenna also wrote the screenplay for Disney’s live-action “Cinderella” reboot, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Cate Blanchett, Lily James and Helena Bonham Carter. She is a producer on Fox’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
