BBC America’s period piece “The Hour” has been canceled, but all those keeping track of where the various “The Wire” alumni have dispersed to can rest easy knowing that Jimmy McNulty, aka Dominic West, is headed back to the small screen with a new pilot. He’s been cast in the lead role of “The Affair,” a Showtime drama in which he’ll play Noah, a New York City high school teacher who’s a devoted husband and father of four, a man whose world is shaken up when he meets a women he’s convinced is his soul mate.
“The Affair” is an hourlong drama from writer/producer Sarah Treem (“House of Cards”) and co-creator Hagai Levi (the creator of “In Treatment”), and is an exploration of two marriages and the consequences following the affair that disrupts them. The story will be told separately from the male and female perspectives — though the female lead has yet to be announced. Treem and Levi will serve as executive producers along with director Mark Mylod (“Shameless,” “Entourage”).
West will be playing Richard Burton alongside Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor in the BBC America movie “Burton & Taylor,” slated for 2014.
