Don’t Mess With Marshal Stacker Pentecost/Idris Elba In This New Clip From ‘Pacific Rim’

Don't Mess With Marshal Stacker Pentecost/Idris Elba In This New Clip From 'Pacific Rim'

Here’s a new clip from the Guillermo del Toro-directed epic sci-fi adventure film Pacific Rim, which will be released on July 12th2013.

The film is set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, as the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.

Idris Elba co-stars in this adventure, playing a character known as PPDC Marshal Stacker Pentecost, commanding officer of Charlie Hunnam‘s character, the star of the film.

Travis Beacham wrote the screenplay for Pacific Rim, and Legendary Pictures’ Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are producers.

I should note that Tom Cruise was initially attached to play Stacker Pentecost, before he left the project and Elba took over. As I watched the below clip, I tried picturing Cruise delivering the same verbal bitch-slap, but couldn’t.

I like how he leans into Hunnam’s character, tugging at his ear, waiting for verbal confirmation that he understood what Pentecost delivers.

The film will be released in 3D of course.

Watch the new clip below, which first debuted on The Late Show 2 nights ago.
