While the show floor doesn’t open until noon on Tuesday, E3 is already off to a huge start with today’s round of press conferences and trailer releases.
The big news of the day had to be the reveal (above) of what the Playstation 4 is going to look like. There was a lot of anticipation for the PS 4 announcement, since the less than stellar Xbox One reveal that Microsoft hosted. As it turns out, the Playstation 4 will be $100 less than the Xbox One (Xbox One will be $499, vs the PS4’s $399 price tag), and not require an “always on” internet connection or 24 hour check in.
Sony went one step further, releasing an instructional video that details how you can share games with the PS4.
Aside from the “console wars” portion of the day, there were many new games shown and talked about. Some of the better ones I’ve seen include (in no particular order):
The Order 1886 looks to be some kind of steam punk monster hunter type game. The weapons are very interesting.
Rayman Legends looks great!
Disney is doing their best Skylanders impression with their game Infinity.
Speaking of Disney, their joint game with Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts III looked like a nice addition to the series.
South Park: The Stick of Truth looks to have all the elements that make the show so much fun. The trailer ends with a very funny, and very accurate quote from Cartman that could be applied to pretty much every game we’ve seen so far.
