Summer means a lot of things — events, movies, road trips, BBQs and more — but there is no better season for rolling down the windows and cranking up the tunes. And one band definitely worth rockin’ on the iPod are Big Star. While they are somewhat perceived as a “critics band,” and perhaps never achieved the same chart success of their contemporaries, music heads and those with a keen ear on the FM dial already know that they are one of the finest power pop bands America has ever produced. Whether diehard or newcomer, you’ll want to check this out…
We have the exclusive poster for the upcoming documentary “Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me.” Co-directed by Drew DeNicola and Olivia Mori, the film chronicles the Memphis music scene during the late ’60s and ’70s that helped birth the band, interviews with critics, friends and family, and the contributions and lasting legacy of the group’s core duo, the late Chris Bell and Alex Chilton. We saw the film in unfinished form at SXSW in 2012 and called it a “fitting tribute,” and this should be one music fans should track down.
Magnolia Pictures will release the film on July 3rd. Full one sheet below.
