‘Jaws’ Turns 38 With A Great ‘Filmumentary’

'Jaws' Turns 38 With A Great 'Filmumentary'

Thirty-eight years ago on this date, “Jaws” was released to theaters. Movies (and swimming in the ocean) were never the same again.

Just in time for this anniversary, Jamie Benning has released the latest of his “filmumentaries” about Steven Spielberg’s breakthrough blockbuster. Benning’s movies are basically the coolest and best DVD or Blu-ray making-of documentaries ever assembled, because they’re incredibly well-researched and draw from all kinds of sources (vintage interviews, audio commentaries, other documentaries) to create extremely comprehensive and well-rounded looks at films. They’re basically one part DVD commentary, one part behind the scenes featurette, one part deleted scenes, one part trivia, one part criticism, and three parts awesomeness.

Benning has previously made filmumentaries about each of the movies in the original “Star Wars” trilogy and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” And now he has “Inside Jaws,” two and a half delightful, insightful hours on Steven, Roy, Richard, Robert, Bruce, and all the rest. Enjoy.
