Keira Knightley Will Play 'The Imitation Game' With Benedict Cumberbatch

From hot 2011 Black List project to promising Warner Bros. project to studio castaway, it has been a bumpy ride for “The Imitation Game,” but it’s now coming back to life in a big way. Earlier this year, it was reported that Benedict Cumberbatch was in discussions to join, and indeed he’s on board, and now another great name is joining him.

Keira Knightley is now in talks for the biopic that has “Headhunters” helmer Morten Tyldum set to direct. Based on the biography “Alan Turing: The Enigma,” the film will tell the story of the English multi-hyphenate — mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, computer scientist — whose cracking of ciphers made a massive difference in World War II and whose exploration into early computer design paved the way for the technologies we have now. However, he was a closeted homosexual who, once he came out, subjected himself to “treatment” programs and sadly took his own life in 1954. No word yet on Knightley’s role.

Black Bear Pictures are financing the movie but no word yet on when it will shoot. Knightley is busy filming Lynn Shelton‘s “Laggies” at the moment, and has “Can A Song Save Your Life?” and “Jack Ryan” in the can. [Variety]
