Listen: Exclusive Track From Cliff Martinez's Score To 'Only God Forgives'

In just a few weeks, you’ll finally see the result of Ryan Gosling asking, “Wanna fight?” in “Only God Forgives.” As you might guess, it’s violent, ugly, brutal and vicious stuff…but it’s quite beautiful too. Yes, that’s due to Nicolas Winding Refn‘s almost obscene skill behind the camera — there is barely a frame out of place — but also due to the score by Cliff Martinez. Just like in their previously collaboration “Drive,” it’s integral to establishing the mood and tone of the film and we have an exclusive treat for your ears today from the official soundtrack.

“Julian And The Body” perfectly captures the unease, menace, dread and white knuckle fury contained within Refn’s film, and how they all blend into one unique voice. What starts as a tale of vengeance, curdles into something more sinister perhaps, with the lead character Julian trying to free himself from a life that seems to have walled him in with violence from all sides. Martinez’s score is powerful stuff on its own and in the context of the film, and it does some of the dramatic lifting in the picture, keeping dialogue to the bare minimum.

The soundtrack streets on July 16th with the movie hitting theaters on July 20th. Check out “Julian And The Body” below along with soundtrack cuts “Leave My Son In Peace” and “Sister, Pt. 1.” And as a bonus, here’s Nicolas Winding Refn warning you to turn off that cellphone when you’re at the movies.
