San Sebastián and Zurich Film Festivals Announce Creative Partnership

San Sebastián and Zurich Film Festivals Announce Creative Partnership

With both film festivals taking place at the end of September, the San Sebastián International Film Festival and Zurich Film Festival have decided to take advantage of this temporal alignment, forging an ongoing partnership that will affect audiences, attendees, filmmakers and industry guests at both events.

ZFF Co-Directors Karl Spoerri and Nadja Schildknecht commented, “We’re immensely proud to be able to work closely in the future with such a prestigious partner. San Sebastián is considered amongst other things as an outstanding forum for Latin American films. As such, it enables the ZFF to remain in permanent contact with a region of the world boasting extraordinary creativity and remarkable variety in this field.”

The partnership will include both festivals highlighting each other’s national cinema. Running from September 26 to October 6, the Zurich Film Festival is set to feature a “San Sebastian Window,” putting a spotlight on Spanish cinema by showcasing entries from San Sebastián’s selection of films. In return, the San Sebastián International Film Festival will have a “Zurich Window,” featuring films from German-speaking countries, during the festival’s run from September 20 to 28.

Although this will be the partnership’s first year, both festivals plan to strengthen and increase their synergy in the future, resulting in attendees having more exposure to cinema and giving filmmakers more access to the European market.
