Sundance Channel is adding rapper/entrepreneur/actor Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson to its unscripted programming slate. The network has greenlit “Dream School,” a six-part hourlong series created by chef Jamie Oliver and executive produced by and featuring Jackson.
“Dream School,” which is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2013, will be centered around a place for troubled teenage dropouts to be educated by professionals from the top of their fields — including name musicians, politicians, filmmakers, scientists, actors and artists.
“‘Dream School’ will be at times devastating, at times deeply uplifting, and entirely full of the genuine conflict and struggle that goes along with true transformation,” said Sundance Channel’s Sarah Barnett in the announcement. “Viewers will see that play out, not just from the teenagers in the show but also from the celebrities and educators who have signed on for this tough yet potentially life-changing project.”
Oliver, who’s serving as an executive producer on the series, has already overseen a UK version of the project that aired on Channel 4 on 2011 and featured among its famous instructors Cherie Blair, Jazzie B, Alastair Campbell and Alvin Hall. Roy Ackerman, Andrew JAmeson and Jonathan Grosskopf will also serve as EPs.
While Sundance Channel has gotten a lot of attention for its scripted series “Top of the Lake” and “Rectify,” the network also recently premiered the second season of its well-received unscripted series “Push Girls.”
