Having been the subject of plenty of talk and controversy at Sundance back in January, as well as undergoing a name change from its original title “Two Mothers,” Exclusive Releasing has released a US trailer for “Adore.” The film features Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as Lil and Roz, two women who have been friends since childhood. They are both now nearing middle age, with each having given birth to a son and living in an Australian beach town. A plethora of overlapping emotions seems to draw both of them to each other’s sons, with Lil and Roz taking in each other’s strapping young offspring as lovers.
As scandalous and outrageous as the material sounds, “Adore” comes with an impressively lofty pedigree. In addition to the two esteemed female leads, the film’s script was written by Christopher Hampton, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Dangerous Liaisons,” who seems to have a keen insight and interest into the complex emotional ramifications of sex and desire. The film also marks the English-language debut of French director Anne Fontaine, whose previous films include “Coco Before Chanel” and “My Worst Nightmare.”
“Adore” is set to hit theaters on video-on-demand on September 6.
