British comedian and “The Office” co-creator Stephen Merchant has finally gotten a series of his own, writing and starring in “Hello Ladies,” a new comedy premiering September 29 on HBO. The series is based on Merchant’s stand-up show of the same name, and will explore the minefield of Merchant, playing an exaggerated version of himself, trying to find love in Los Angeles. “Hello Ladies” already has the tradmark “Office” awkward deadpan — the teaser below shows Merchant in a bar using one of the worst, most awkward pick-up lines in human history. Eight episodes have been ordered so far, so stay tuned as Merchant dives head first into the dating pool– and tries not to drown.
