A new trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s “Prisoners” has arrived, and it looks to be a taut, engaging kidnapping procedural featuring stand-out performances from leads Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. A small-town carpenter (Jackman) endures the unthinkable when his young daughter goes missing, and takes the law into his own hands, putting him at odds with the detective on the case (Gyllenhaal).
Paul Dano, Melissa Leo and Viola Davis round out the strong cast. The script by Aaron Guzikowski spent some time on the Black List.
You may recognize French-Canuck Villeuneuve’s name from his 2010 critically acclaimed mystery “Incendies,” which nabbed a Best Foreign Language Oscar nomination. The director also has another Gyllenhaal thriller in post-production this year: “Enemy,” co-starring Melanie Laurent.
“Prisoners,” a Warner Bros. title, hits theaters September 20.
