CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2014 New Voices in Black Cinema Festival

Brooklyn’s premier film is now accepting entries for the 2014 edition of our film festival!

The 4th annual New Voices in Black Cinema continues ActNow Foundation’s ongoing partnership with BAMcinématek (

New Voices in Black Cinema (NVBC) is a multi-genre film festival of quality movies geared towards getting all audiences to appreciate and support unique independent films from, by, and starring the African and Latino diasporas. The further purpose of this series is to give filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their talent on a grand stage where they can develop opportunities for limited distribution and create buzz for future industry contacts.

Some of the fantastic films we featured at our 2013 edition include:

BIG WORDS (in theaters July 17th)

FOUR (starring Wendell Pierce from HBO’s ‘The Wire)

THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE (currently on DVD/BluRay and PBS)

THE KILL HOLE (starring Chadwick Boseman from the hit film ’42’)

AUJOUD’HUI (starring Saul Williams)

…and so many other fantastic titles!

Taking place March 13-16th 2014, this program is all about choosing excellence over spectacle, and daring stories over standard fare as NVBC pushes the gamut of showing how film explores Black society and provides exhibition to new voices, and existing ones, that represent these rich and diverse cultures proudly putting them on display to the masses.

All films must be directed and/or produced by or star people from the African and Latino diasporas.
