Exclusive: Lake Bell Shows Off Her Russian 'Star Wars' Accent In Clip From 'In A World...'

Boasting a work ethic that allows her to place the job titles actress/writer/director/producer before her name and talent that has seen her toggle equally between TV and film with roles in everything from “How To Make It In America” and “Children’s Hospital” to “It’s Complicated,” “Black Rock” and “Pride & Glory,” Lake Bell is certainly not without ambition. But luckily, she’s also got the the creativity to go with it and this summer she’s delivering her feature length directorial debut “In A World” which tells a story about folks who don’t often get their own movies: voice-over actors.

Featuring Bell herself (who also wrote the script), alongside a pretty great ensemble including Fred Melamed, Demetri Martin, Michaela Watkins, Ken Marino and Rob Corddry, the story follows the daughter of a veteran voice-over star who is looking to break into a business, as she battles to get the gig voicing the next mega-franchise. But why a movie about movie trailers and the folks who make that magic happen?

“I’m a trailer fanatic. If I need to go to my happy place, I just go to Apple Trailers,” Bell told us earlier this year. “If I go to the movie and miss the trailers, I’ll be pissed at everyone who made me late. But also, when I was at drama school, we did a lot of vocal training, not voice-over, but radio plays and whatnot. And the voice itself as an instrument, and as a machine was really revered, so even as a young kid, I was collecting accents, listening to other people’s dialects. So this was already a place of interest for me.”

And Bell has fun with it, and as you’ll see in this exclusive scene, her character shows off her odd talent for doing “Star Wars” dialogue in Russian. It’s a clever bit in a charming film that we called “funny, honest and very real.”

“In A World…” opens on August 9th. Watch below.
