Friday Box Office: Green 'Jasmine' As Woody Allen's Latest Aims For Top 2013 Limited Debut

Aided by strong reviews and even stronger early Oscar buzz for Cate Blanchett’s performance, Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” soared on its opening night, taking in $175,991 from just 6 theaters.

Distributor Sony Pictures Classics reported a $29,332 average as a result, which is remarkably tracking the film ahead of Allen’s 2011 hit “Midnight in Paris” (his highest grossing film ever). That film opened to a $28,492 average (also from 6 theaters) on its first day before taking in $99,834 per screen in its opening weekend, one of the 10 best limited debuts for a live action ever. “Jasmine” should at least match that number, and will surely beat the $87,667 average of “Spring Breakers” to give it the best per-theater-average of 2013 so far.

Check back tomorrow a full report on Woody’s “Blue” hit.
