In the Works: Paul Greengrass in Talks to Helm 'Trial of the Chicago 7,' from Aaron Sorkin's Script

Director Paul Greengrass is in final talks to helm “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” from a script by Aaron Sorkin. The much-delayed film follows a defining moment of 1960s American history: the trial of the seven individuals charged with conspiracy and rioting during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The project at one point had Steven Spielberg attached.

It was the first of a three-project deal Sorkin signed with DreamWorks in 2007, but was pushed back due to the Writers’ Strike in November of that year. As early as 2008, Greengrass (along with Ben Stiller) was rumored to take on the project after Spielberg had to move on.

Next in the pipeline for Greengrass is “Captain Phillips” (trailer here), starring Tom Hanks in the title role as a cargo ship captain dealing with a Somali pirate crisis, with an Oscar season release date of October 11. He is best known for the Bourne installments “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “The Bourne Supremacy,” and has also directed “United 93” and “Green Zone.”
