New Look At Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt In 'All You Need Is Kill' & More Pics From 'Ender's Game' As Controversy Brews

Comic-Con lifts off this week, and the blogosphere will become nerdtacular as all kinds of sneaks, peeks, first looks, new images and more will be dropping online, and a couple of sci-fi flicks have gotten an early boost. So let’s dive right in…

First up is a new look at Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in Doug Liman‘s “All You Need Is Kill.” The duo look appropriately gritty and grimy in the adaptation of the book by Hiroshi Sakurazaka that follows a soldier in an alien war who finds himself living his last day in battle over and over again after being caught in a time loop, becoming a better soldier along the way. Co-starring Charlotte Riley and Bill Paxton, the film will come for your summer dollars next year on June 6, 2014. And if you’re overseas, you might want to look for it under its reportedly new international title, “Edge of Tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, the folks at Lionsgate are getting buzz of another kind for their Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley-starring sci-fi “Ender’s Game.” Author Orson Scott Card‘s homophobia has taken centre stage, particularly as he asks for tolerance for his intolerance. The studio has struck back over calls of a boycott of the film saying that Card’s views “are completely irrelevant to a discussion of ‘Ender’s Game.’ The simple fact is that neither the underlying book nor the film itself reflect these views in any way, shape or form.” Meanwhile, openly gay writer/director Dustin Lance Black has opined: “Boycotting a movie made by 99% lgbt equality folks in an lgbt equality industry is a waste of our collective energy. Making one phone call to a relative in the south who isn’t quite there yet would be 1000 times more effective.”

We’re sure this issue will keep brewing. “Ender’s Game” hits theatres on November 1st. [EW/Empire
