Project of the Day: A Detective Finds Multiple Versions of Himself at a Crime Scene in ‘Omphalos’

Project of the Day: A Detective Finds Multiple Versions of Himself at a Crime Scene in 'Omphalos'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Tweetable Logline:

A detective investigating his own murder discovers multiple versions of himself, not all of them friendly.

Elevator Pitch:

Gumshoe detective Darius Lefaux is summoned to the scene of a murder to
view the body…his own body. Memories begin to haunt Darius and as the
plot thickens, duplicates of him emerge. In a race against time, Darius
sets out to find the murderous version of himself before it finds him.

In a dazzling narrative told with the textural richness and depth of
art-house cinema, the best elements of pulp science fiction, and the
scope of a Hollywood action-thriller, “Omphalos” follows in the
footsteps of Darren Aronofsky’s indie classic “Pi,” with a bit of
Christopher Nolan’s deliciously entertaining “Inception.”

Production Team:

Written and directed by Gabriel Judet-Weinshel.
Produced by Isen Robbins, Aimee Schoof, Gabriel Judet-Weinshel, George
Nicholas, Edoardo Ballerini, Gill Holland, & Christian H. Cooper

The film stars Edoardo Ballerini (“Boardwalk Empire”), Emmanuelle
Chriqui (“Entourage”), Austin Pendleton (“Amistad”), Lynn Cohen (“The
Hunger Games: Catching Fire”), Al Sapienza (“House of Cards”), &
Greg Bennick (“Flight From Death”).

About the Production:

A riveting sci-fi premise, bare-knuckle suspense, and startling visuals
are only the first layer of a story that succeeds on a deeper
level—about the mercurial, complex nature of identity and the longing
for love and the simpler time of youth

“Omphalos” began as a hand-made, highly-personal film several years ago.
Early tests and scenes were shot on weekends and financed
out-of-pocket. From there it has grown into a full production, catching
the attention of investors, industry professionals, even receiving press
in Variety.
