What are some of the greatest financial perks of filming in your state? Hotel Occupancy Sales Tax Exemption: In Pennsylvania, the hotel occupancy
tax is exempt for feature film productions when hotel stays are in
excess of 30 days.
What tax credits are available for productions in your state? Pennsylvania offers a 25% Tax Credit to films that spend at least 60% of
their total production budget in the Commonwealth. Projects eligible
for Film Tax Credits under the Program are: the production of a feature
film, a television film, a television talk or game show series, a
television commercial, a television pilot or each episode of a
television series intended as a programming for a national audience.
What are some of the locations in your state that filmmakers should know about? Pennsylvania has 10 regions that feature just about anything you could
write in a screenplay. Romantic bed and breakfasts? Big city action? The
cozy little towns that can transport you to another era? Free Use of
State-Owned Property: Except for extraordinary activities, no department
or agency of the commonwealth may charge a fee or other cost (except
the actual costs incurred by the affected department or agency) for the
use of state-owned property for the purpose of making commercial motion
Are there studios and soundstages that the state hosts that filmmakers should know about? Commonwealth has two major studios – Sun Center Studio in the Philadelphia region and 31st Street Studio in Pittsburgh region.
