Bummer: Joachim Trier's 'Louder Than Bombs' Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Isabelle Huppert & Gabriel Byrne Scrapped

Well, here’s a bit of bummer news, particularly for those who are fans of Joachim Trier and are aching to see what the talented filmmaker does next. The director behind “Reprise” and “Oslo, August 31st” had been busy preparing what would be his biggest movie yet, an English language film entitled “Louder Than Bombs” featuring a great cast — Jesse Eisenberg, Isabelle Huppert, Gabriel Bryne — with plans to shoot this fall. But alas, it’s not to be…

Screen Daily reports that production company Motlys has effectively kiboshed the movie — at least for now — as they were unable to raise the $6.6 million needed to shoot the movie. Kickstarter anyone? Previously described as utilizing a “Rashomon”-style plot conceit, the drama would’ve revolved around a late war photographer played by Huppert, whose husband and two sons discover a secret about her past as a retrospective of her work is being put together. And given that both of Trier’s previous films dealt with history and memory, we were really curious to see how those themes would’ve been addressed here.

But, alas, it’s not to be, though Motlys is claiming that this project could still happen at some point (provided they can get the finances together). So consider us thoroughly bummed out, and hopefully this either gets revived fast or Trier has something else the background he can turn to — we don’t want to wait too long for this next movie. And if you haven’t seen his films, track them down — they are both very much worth watching.
