W. W. Jacobs’ classic short horror story “The Monkey’s Paw” has inspired adaptations as varied as Bob Clark’s “Deathdream” and a “Simpsons” “Treehouse of Horror” segment. Chiller Films is the latest studio to take on the “be careful what you wish for” tale with “The Monkey’s Paw,” written by Macon Blair (a frequent collaborator with “Blue Ruin” filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier) and directed by Brett Simmons (“Husk”).
CJ Thomason stars in the film as Jake Tilton, who acquires a mystical monkey’s paw talisman that grants whomever holds it three wishes, and finds his world turned upside down after his first two wishes result in the resurrection of his malevolent coworker, Tony Cobb (Stephen Lang). Cobb tries to pressure Jake into using the final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, his intimidation escalating into murder. Michelle Pierce, Tauvia Dawn, Corbin Bleu and Charles S. Dutton co-star.
“The Monkey’s Paw” will debut on demand on October 8th as well as in select theaters — check out the end of this post for cities and dates — before making its television premiere on Chiller in January.
