Get Ready For Fall With New Images From ‘Gravity,’ ‘Snowpiercer,’ ‘Prisoners’ & ‘Anchorman 2’

Get Ready For Fall With New Images From 'Gravity,' 'Snowpiercer,' 'Prisoners' & 'Anchorman 2'

With summer winding down (the last major blockbuster, “Elysium,” opened today, with the rest of August rolling out weaker and weaker commercial fare), eyes are now turning to the fall offerings. And while there’s plenty of prestige-y fare on the way, there’s more than a few films that, while they might have an eye on the trophy cabinet, are paying just as much attention to your wallet.

First up is Alfonso Cuaron‘s long-awaited “Gravity,” which is expensive enough that, while it’s courting critics by opening the Venice Film Festival in a few weeks time, will need to find a mainstream audience too. Bloody Disgusting have a brace of new images from the film, and while they’re in slightly questionable quality, they do demonstrate that the film isn’t entirely space bound, as we’ve got a couple of interiors of Sandra Bullock inside a space station. The film opens on October 4th.

Next up is Prisoners,” also from Warner Bros, also coming from an acclaimed international auteur, in this case “Incendies” helmer Denis Villeneuve, and also hoping to land in that sweet spot between critical love and commercial success. The film’s a thriller about the abduction of two children, and the parents who take the law into their own hands, and features an all-star cast led by Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola Davis and Paul Dano. Spy a couple of new glimpses below, via Dread Central, and the film will play at TIFF before opening wider September 20th.

Finally, “Snowpiercer” is already wowing audience in South Korea, having debuted last weekend to record-breaking box office numbers. While we wait to hear when we’ll be getting the film, and how much of it Harvey Weinstein will be butchering, the film’s Twitter account has unveiled a couple of new images of Chris Evans, one in character, one taking direction from Bong Joon-Ho. Why not replicate the experience of watching the American release of the film by placing black tape over 20% of the image?

Finally, and most likely to be troubling the Academy Awards, is “Anchorman: The Legend Continues.” Adam McKay’s film is undoubtedly the most-anticipated comedy of the year, and that hasn’t changed after this new image from EW, which sees the Channel 4 News Team donning some nifty new duds. They’ll be assembling again on December 20th.
