Shemar Moore Blows Past His Rom-Com IndieGoGo Campaign Goal – Raises Over $610,000!

Shemar Moore Blows Past His Rom-Com IndieGoGo Campaign Goal - Raises Over $610,000!

While Spike Lee hustles hard to raise $1.25 million for his next joint, another “celebrity campaign” featured previously on this site, has surpassed its goal, with time still left before it ends.

I’m talking about actor Shemar Moore, who, as you’ll recall, initially set up a campaign to raise $1.5 million for a romantic comedy titled The Bounce Back, which he’ll star in, along with Nadine Velazquez (you’ll remember her from the opening scenes of Flight, opposite Denzel Washington), but had to cancel that campaign, after raising about $250,000 of the $1.5 million.

But he certainly didn’t give up, and instead headed over to Kickstarter competitor, IndieGoGo (which lets you keep what you raise, even if you don’t meet your goal, as opposed to Kickstarter, which requires that you meet your set goal, or you get nothing).

For the second try, Mr Moore set his IndieGoGo campaign goal at $500,000, not the $1.5 million he wanted for his Kickstarter campaign. And thus far, with 3 days left to go in the campaign, he’s not just raised the $500,000 he’s asked for, he’s actually blown past it impressively, raising over $610,000!!

Again, with 3 days still to go in the campaign, meaning, that figure should go even higher!

But even at today’s figure, The Bounce Back campaign becomes the 4th highest online crowd-funded film, behind Veronica Mars, Zach Braff’s project, and a film by Adam Carolla titled Road Hard, which is using a crowd-funding site called FundAnything to raise $1 million, and has raised $969,000 so far! Wow! And this is the first time I’m actually hearing about that campaign.

And in 4th place currently is Shemar Moore’s The Bounce Back – a campaign highlighted on this blog, but which drew the ire of a lot of you, as I recall. Obviously, Shemar didn’t need your money, did he? Or were you talking smack in public, but contributing in private?

So while Spike’s been getting all the press attention lately for his campaign, other campaigns, like this one, have been seemingly, quietly pushing ahead towards their goals, and even surpassing them.

I’m told by Shemar’s reps that The Bounce Back will be entirely an indie project (no studio involvement, at least at the financing/production stage), and Moore will add any additional funds the film’s budget needs to see it through completion.

But he’s got at least $610,000 to start.

We’ll be interviewing Shemar today about the campaign, so if you have any questions for him, feel free to leave in the comment section.

The campaign ends on Sunday night, so if you’d like to add to it, click HERE to do so. Look for the interview early next week.
